Bring depth and emotion to your images. In this eight-week, in-person course, you will master principles of light, form, shape, posing, and connecting with people.

How You Will Learn

Every session will have instruction for lighting and posing. Using two studio setups, with supervision and encouragement from the instructor, you will practice the skills you have just learned.

Beginners will get personal attention for the basics, advanced participants will learn the fine adjustments, learning to create good and even sellable portraits of any subject.

We will discuss the meaning, function, and humanity of fine portraiture.

What the Beginner Will Learn

End your fear of studio lighting and flash. Become at ease working with people.

Progress from "smile" to portraits with feeling and drama.

You will become comfortable creating portrait lighting with simple and professional flash equipment. Each week, after practicing in the classroom studios, go home and practice with or without lighting equipment.

Your skill creating portrait light will increase each session, until you are as comfortable with flash as you are in natural settings

After this course, you will see the perfect portrait lighting everyday in your home, the city, and nature.

What the Camera Enthusiast and Professional Learn

You will develop the ability to avoid bad lighting, to correct lighting problems the moment you see the first images on your camera.

Become aware when you are breaking the rules and when your new lighting techniques are key with difficult subject

From the first session, you will be learning to read photographs, applying this skill to create portraits telling the story you intend.

Learn flash placement for large and small rooms, seamlessly capturing portrait-lit candids.

You will identify problem poses and lighting that now seem impossible to solve. You will become skilled at quickly and confidently creating good portraits any time, any place.

After learning classic posing of the face, hands, and body, you will be making good portraits consistently, easily.
